Chapter 2: Getting Ready

Endymion and Jadeite quietly walked toward the gazebo, stopping as they saw Edward. “Hey Eddie. You get left too?” Endymion asked jokingly. “Heh…yeah. Something about a meeting all the girls have to attend. I suppose we ought to head to our rooms for a while… besides… there’s something I want to talk to you about.” Edward replied quietly, unable to keep his eyes from roving toward the palace. Endymion chuckled. “Let me guess, it has something to do with your blue-haired angel.” Edward laughed lightly. “Am I that easy to read?” he asked jokingly as he looked back to Endymion and Jadeite. “Yes it is…but quite frankly I don’t blame you. If she’s anything like her sister…well, she’s quite captivating. Definitely not someone you could get over easily.” Jadeite responded with a smile. Edward chuckled. “You’re definitely right about that.” He said softly as his eyes turned back to the palace. He sighed softly. “Anyway, let’s head on up to our rooms.” He said quietly as the three young men walked toward the palace and headed toward their rooms. As they entered the palace they found the other generals and caught up with them as well. The group of young men chatted as they headed toward their rooms, mostly about the magnificent women they had attached themselves too. Their laughter floated down the hallway as they finally separated and headed into their own rooms. Endymion and Edward had connecting rooms and moved into the central sitting room. “So what is it you wanted to talk to me about Edward?” Endymion asked as they sat down in a couple of chairs facing each other. Edward sat quietly for a moment before responding. “You know how Amanda has been lobbying for an alliance between our planets?” He asked, waiting for Endymion’s nod of acknowledgement. “Well…I think I know how we can get that…I just don’t know how to bring it up…I don’t want her to think it’s the only or main reason…” Edward continued as Endymion’s face showed a perplexed expression. “What are you talking about…you know how the council is…the only way they would ever consent to an alliance between Earth and ANY planet would have to be through…you want…Are you sure? I mean…” Endymion replied, almost stuttering as he realized what Edward was talking about. Edward grimaced, nodding slightly. “Yes…a marriage alliance with Mercury…or more specifically with Amanda.” He said quietly, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. “I love her Endy…so very much. I finally told her today…and…and she loves me too. I so wanted to ask her right then and there…but…I want it to be special…and plus I don’t have a ring yet but…I mean…you love Sere right? It’s obvious you do. I know she’s young but don’t you ever just feel like you can’t wait…like you need to make sure she’s yours forever? I just…I love her. I can’t see myself living without her the rest of my life.” Edward said quickly, almost worried over his brother’s response. He looked up to see Endymion smiling. “I know exactly what you mean. The only reason I haven’t acted on it is because Serenity is so young…but Amanda…well, she’s of age now…and already joint-queen of Mercury. The only thing that really worries me is what the council will say about it. I mean…you’re next in line for king if anything were to happen to Dad. She’s not able to leave her duties and I don’t think the council would take to kindly to you being king and gone all the time.” Endymion said quietly, almost hating to bring in the voice of reality. Edward sighed and stood, pacing a little. “Then…I’ll abdicate if I have to. We both know you’re the better ruler anyway. I can be an ambassador or something. I mean…you’ve always enjoyed all the duties and everything dad puts on us for training and everything. Me… I do well…but it’s not what I really want… What I want is to be with Amanda.” He said quickly, trailing off into a whisper. Endymion sighed. “What about Serenity and I? These moon queens…they don’t ever leave the moon…it’s the reason Queen Serenity and her husband separated after Sere was born, among other things…” Endymion sighed. “I don’t know Edward. I wish I knew how we could work this out but I don’t.” Endymion continued. Edward groaned as he sat back down, running his hands through his hair in frustration. Endymion watched his brother sadly before standing and walking around the room for a minute before looking back at Edward. “Do it…we’ll work things out with the council later. In all honesty, Sere and I have talked about our relationship and she’s made it clear that we would work things out no matter what…even if we can’t be together all the time. There’s no reason for you to suffer on our behalf. We’ll work something out…” he said quietly and then walked over to his brother, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Ask her Edward, we’ll work out all the details with the blasted council later.” Endymion finally said with a small smile. Edward looked up at him thankfully. “Thank you Endymion. I’ll find a way to make this up to you, I promise.” Edward said quietly as he looked up at his twin brother. Endymion smiled. “Don’t worry about it. By the way, if you need a ring, try making one…she’ll like that. Remember how I made that promise ring for Sere? Find an artful way to tell her it’s only until you can get a real ring from the treasury and that you just couldn’t wait any longer to ask her to marry you. She’ll love that.” Endymion said with a smile as he walked toward his room, winking back at his brother. “You know…that’s a good idea. I’ll do that. Thank you Endy.” He said almost cheerfully, his heart lightened after their conversation. “I’ll see you again in a little while. I’m going to go work on that ring.” Edward added a moment later as he stopped at the doorway to his room. Endymion nodded. “I think I’m going to get a little rest. It’s bound to be a late night and I didn’t sleep too well last night after that idiot Queen Beryl appeared at the ball last night. I can’t stand that woman…she won’t ever leave me alone.” Endymion said in aggravation. “Yeah I know what you mean…she bothered me last night too. I just hope that the rumors aren’t true about her and Metallica. That could really mess up any plans we might have with Amanda and Serenity.” Edward replied in consternation. “Oh you have no idea…” Endymion said as he waved and walked into his room, lightly closing the door behind him. Edward nodded in response heading into his room as well. As Endymion got his sleep, Edward stayed up and worked on the ring for Amanda, his smile enveloping his face as he thought of Amanda. Slowly the ring took shape amidst the blue ball of energy between his hands as a small miniature rose, thornless of course, wrapped itself around into a beautiful ring. After a few more moments, it crystallized, becoming a solid band with a small frosted blue rose on top with a small diamond set into the center of the open rose. He then placed a large rose into the glowing ball of energy and caused the stem to disappear. The ring laid itself gently into the center of the large blue rose and then the rose petals slowly closed back up, turning into a small ring box of rose petals that crystallized with a small hinge closing at the front for Amanda to open and see the ring in the middle of the small rose jewelry box. Slowly the energy ball disappeared as the project was completed and he smiled as it dropped gently into his palm. He opened the box and looked at the beautiful ring and smiled, thinking of how it would look on Amanda’s ring finger. He slowly closed the box and laid it on his bedside table before laying down for a short nap as well. He had about an hour before it would be time to get ready for the evening ceremony, which would be followed by a grand ball, and he wanted to be refreshed for it.

An hour later, the Senshi all left the meeting room they had been cooped up in for the past 2 hours. It was now 5 o’clock and many of them were rushing towards their rooms to get ready for the big event. They all had special attire they had to dress in so that when they detransformed back into princesses and queens, they would be ready for the grand ball. The girls chattered excitedly as they hurried to the block of rooms reserved on Princess Serenity’s hall for such occasions. Ami and Amanda hurried into their rooms. Ami was anxious to hear what had happened between Amanda and Edward. She had noticed the flush on her sister’s cheeks and could hardly wait to find out. Ami closed the doors to the sitting room behind them and then hurried over to her sister. “SO? Spill it! I know something happened in that gazebo Amanda…what did he do? What did he say?” she asked excitedly. Amanda laughed at her younger sister’s enthusiasm. “Well, we talked and just enjoyed our time together for a while and then…he…he told me he loves me. It was mutual of course.“ Amanda replied with a wink. Ami’s eyes widened. “Really? Oh it must have been so romantic…in the gazebo with all the rose vines all over it…and so private too.” Ami teased with a wink. Amanda blushed. “It was very romantic…oh Ami…I love him so much…but I know the Earth council will never approve an alliance…we’d never get to see each other even if…if we did get married.” She said quietly. Ami sighed. “I’m sure he’d find a way to work things out. He’s very resourceful. Look, don’t worry about it. Everything will be fine. Right now though we need to dress to impress!” Ami said with a giggle. Amanda chuckled at her sister’s response and nodded. “Right you are. Meet you here in…half an hour?” Amanda said as she looked at the clock above the main entry door to the sitting room. Ami nodded. “Sounds good to me!” she said cheerfully as she hurried to her bedroom. Amanda chuckled and stood thinking for a moment, a smile playing across her lips as she thought about Edward before turning and rushing to her room as well.
