Chapter 7: The Capture of Earth
The group of 6 men and 1 woman appeared on the transport pads of Elysian’s palace. Edward took Amanda’s hand gently as the group hurried inside the palace and soon found the King and Queen of Elysian talking in the throne room. The group stopped to bow before the King and Queen before Edward, Endymion, and Amanda moved to talk with the king and queen quietly while the generals moved to keep watch silently. “What’s going on?” Endymion asked quickly. “It’s Beryl…she’s been attacking many of the smaller kingdoms around her area for the past month apparently. She’s been silencing them before they could even get out a call for help. After that it’s just been getting bigger and bigger.” King Helios said as he turned to a nearby map that was smattered with red, yellow, and green pins and slowly being taken over by the red pins. Queen Elvira pointed to the red pins. “The red pins are the kingdoms she’s taken over so far. The yellow pins are the kingdoms that are hanging on by a thread. The green pins…basically all that’s left still strong are the generals’ kingdoms surrounding us. She does something to the people of the kingdoms she’s taken over…they fight for her as if they’ve never been allied with us…as if they don’t even know us.” She said quietly. Amanda looked at the map quietly, noticing the small circle of green pins around the kingdom of Elysian and then the circle of yellow pins around them. “Has any aid been sent to the outlying kingdoms to try to help them hold out?” Edward asked quietly. “We can’t get through. She already has hordes of men and…things…between the outlying kingdoms and the generals’ kingdoms. In effect, we’re surrounded…we have nowhere to go. We’ve sent what we can spare to the generals’ kingdoms to help hold out there but…” King Helios said quietly, running his hand through his hair in frustration. “She has numerous forces out there…more than all 5 kingdoms put together…and these outlying kingdoms are falling by the hour.” Queen Elvira said softly.
The doors burst open suddenly as a soldier ran into the room, bowing quickly before the King and Queen. “Sire…the southern kingdoms have fallen.” He said quickly. Helios and Elvira looked at each other quickly before turning back to the map. He sighed as he slowly switched out the 3 yellow pins on the southern portion of the map, leaving an open end other than Nephrite’s kingdom and the edges of Jadeite and Zoicite’s kingdoms. The group looked at each other quietly before Helios looked back to the soldier and nodded slightly. “Thank you for your report. Go and get some rest, I’m sure you haven’t had much of that lately.” King Helios said quietly. The soldier nodded. “Thank you sire.” He said and bowed again before leaving the throne room. “Nephrite.” Helios called as Nephrite looked over from his post and then walked over to the small group, bowing slightly. “Yes sire?” Nephrite said quietly. “We have just received word that the southern kingdoms have fallen, leaving your kingdom vulnerable. Your parents will need you now.” King Helios said quietly. Nephrite nodded and bowed slightly. “Thank you sire. We will do our best to hold the southern wall.” Nephrite said quietly before bowing again and then turning, hurrying from the throne room and back to the transportation pad to go to his kingdom. King Helios watched Nephrite leave before turning back to the others and focusing on Amanda.
“So what brings you here in this dark hour?” he asked, as Amanda looked to Edward, unsure of how to answer. “Father…Amanda and I…we were married while on the moon…yesterday. Amanda came to see how things were fairing…and to be with me.” Edward answered quietly. Helios and Elvira looked at each other for a moment. “Congratulations on your marriage…I am sorry this had to happen after such a happy occasion.” Elvira said quietly, hugging Amanda gently. “Welcome to the family, my dear.” Helios said quietly as he gently shook Amanda’s hand. Amanda smiled softly. “Thank you. I wish there was something more we could do to help out.” She replied as she looked from them to the map, her eyes quickly gathering in the information. She looked back to the king and queen just as another messenger ran into the room, bowing quickly. “Sire! The rest of the kingdoms have fallen! All that is left are the generals’ kingdoms and yours, my liege.” The man said breathlessly. Silence was heard across the room as everyone stared at the man in surprise. Finally, Helios turned sadly, removing the yellow pins and replacing them with red pins. They all stared at the board silently for a moment, the glaringly obvious staring them in the face. Finally, Helios turned back and gestured for the man to go. “Thank you…go…get some rest.” Helios said quietly as the messenger stood, bowing and then walking out of the room. Helios turned to the remaining 3 generals and called them over. “Your kingdoms are now the last barrier before Beryl reaches Elysian. If you wish to go to your kingdoms then you may do so now.” He said quietly as he looked to the 3 generals standing before him. The three young men bowed slightly. “Thank you, sire for allowing us to go to our kingdoms, it is greatly appreciated. We will do our best to hold our defenses.” Kunzite said quietly, the other two generals nodding in agreement. “Farewell my friends. Stay safe.” Endymion said as the three generals bowed slightly and then turned to leave the palace and headed to the transport pads as well.
Endymion, Edward, Amanda, Helios and Elvira looked at each other for a few moments before he turned and led the small group to a small room hidden behind the throne dais. “Amanda…I believe you’re proficient with computers?” Helios asked quietly. Amanda nodded as she moved to stand beside him. “Good…would you mind helping me out with this. We need to bring up all of these computers simultaneously to form a protective dome around our kingdoms. We’ll need to reroute power from different parts of the palace and city to keep it up…but it’ll help out at least. Edward, Endymion, Elvira, you know your positions. Amanda, take the computer across from Edward. I’ll reroute the power and then on my mark, we’ll set up the dome.” Helios said quickly. The others nodded and quickly moved to their places. Amanda quickly familiarized herself with the computer console before looking up to Edward, a sad smile on her face. “Okay…power rerouted…everyone ready on my mark…3…2…1…Go!” Helios said as everyone set up the program for the dome and at his Go everyone tapped the enter button. The room shook slightly and then they heard the dome spreading over the city and then grow outwards. They watched the screens intently as the dome spread out over first Elysian and then over the generals kingdoms. The room was quiet for a few moments as they received word from the generals’ kingdoms that the dome was in place. Helios finally smiled in relief. “Thank goodness that worked. It’s been years since we’ve used the dome, I wasn’t sure it still worked.” Helios said quietly as he looked around at the group. Their reprieve was short lived however as the whole building shook and the dome suddenly disappeared. “What happened?!” Elvira said as she grabbed onto the computer desk to hold herself up. “The dome failed. It must have gotten tripped up somewhere.” Helios replied quickly as he tapped quickly on his computer console. He froze suddenly. “Amanda…get Edward and Endymion back to the moon…NOW!” he said quickly as he moved to the door, pushing a red button quickly. Edward, Endymion, and Amanda looked at each other in surprise. Amanda quickly tapped in some commands on the computer, her eyes widening as she saw why Helios was so flustered. “Come on…quickly!” she said as she turned and the three ran after Helios, Elvira following behind them. “Take the transport pad before it goes down. Beryl is breaking through much too quickly…the generals’ kingdoms are taken over.” Helios said quickly. There was another rumble throughout the palace as they all grasped for something to stay standing. “No time…it’s already gone.” Elvira shouted from behind them.
Amanda quickly grabbed her necklace and transformed. She grasped her staff tightly as it appeared and turned to Edward and Endymion. “Are you sure you won’t come with us?” she said quickly as she looked to Helios and Elvira. Helios shook his head. “No, our place is here. Edward and Endymion must be kept safe. Get to the moon…let Serenity know she’s next. We won’t be able to hold them off very long. Go Quickly!!!” Helios said as there was another rumble through the palace. Mercuriana nodded as Edward and Endymion hugged their parents and then drew close to Mercuriana. Mercuriana’s eyes closed as she tapped the floor with her staff and a bright blue light surrounded the three of them. She opened her eyes and looked over at Helios and Elvira sadly before they disappeared.
They appeared moments later in Queen Serenity’s throne room and Mercuriana quickly detransformed into Amanda and leaned weakly against Edward as he wrapped his arms around her gently, concern in his face. “I’m okay…it just drains me a little. It’ll pass in a few moments.” She said quietly as Serenity ran to them quickly. “What happened? You’re back early.” Serenity asked as she looked to each of the three. Amanda moved slightly and stood on her own. “Earth is soon to fall. They couldn’t hold Beryl off…she was too strong. They were down to just Elysian when we left. Beryl is controlling whoever she conquers, and killing whoever won’t give in to being controlled I’m sure. She has enveloped all of Earth with the evil of Metallica.” Amanda said quickly just as Princess Serenity and the other princesses came running into the room. Amanda’s eyes glued on Ami’s as she saw her sister looking for Jadeite. <Ami…I’m sorry…he went to his kingdom just before it fell…I fear he’s been taken over. > Amanda said sadly through their telepathic link. Ami shook her head, sadness filling her face. “No…” she whispered as the other girls looked at her. “Jadeite, Nephrite, Kunzite, and Zoicite all went to their kingdoms when we arrived on earth. Just before we left, we received word that their kingdoms had fallen. Elysian was the only kingdom left standing against Beryl when we left although with the way things were going; it’s probably taken over by now as well. I’m sorry for your losses. They will be greatly missed by all of us.” Edward said softly as he looked to the group of young women before them. Sadness filled their faces as Princess Serenity hugged Endymion gently. “I’m so sorry Endy…” she whispered quietly. After a few moments, Amanda looked to Queen Serenity. “Serenity…we’ll need to prepare for battle here as well. Beryl will undoubtedly come here as soon as she has overtaken Earth. We won’t have much time to prepare.” Amanda said softly. Serenity nodded slightly. “You are right.” She said before turning to her daughter and the others. “I know we are all saddened right now but we’re going to need your strength very soon. This battle will be hard…and we may face loved ones…but we must not allow Beryl to win this battle no matter what the cost or their loss will be for nothing.” Serenity said softly. The girls looked at each other before looking back to Queen Serenity and nodding. “We will be ready to fight, Queen Serenity. We will not allow Beryl to win.” Minako finally said. Queen Serenity nodded in thanks. “All right. As we all know there is still another ball on for tonight. I’ll announce it then. In fact, we should all be getting ready…remember to keep your transformation items on you at all times. At least tonight will be smaller and there won’t be as many children and elderly to cause problems. We’ll have a good force of people here to help if Beryl attacks. Until then I’m going to let the captain of the guard know so he can get everyone ready on his end. Everyone get to your rooms and change for the ball tonight…and try to get a little rest before you have to join us…we’ll all need our rest.” Serenity said quietly. Everyone nodded as they all turned and headed toward their rooms.
