Chapter 8: Back on the Moon

Amanda and Edward were talking quietly as they quickly pulled their clothing for the night out of the armoire. “Eddie…I uh…I don’t know how to tell you this…I’m surprised it happened so fast but I feel you ought to know especially with what we’re about to face.” Amanda said softly, glancing at Edward but then looking away. Edward looked at her curiously as he placed his navy blue tuxedo on a nearby chair. “What is it Ama?” he asked softly as he moved closer to her and gently brought her chin up so she was looking at him. “I-I’m pregnant. I felt it earlier today. I know it’s fast but the flashes of light last night when we were having sex…that’s what it was…I just…I know somehow. I think its part of this telepathic gift I received at the ceremony last night.” She said softly, stopping her near babbling as he laid a gentle finger over her lips, his eyes sparkling as he looked down at her. She looked up at him and couldn’t help smiling. “You don’t mind that I’m pregnant so fast?” she asked softly. Edward chuckled and pulled her into a close hug. “No, no I don’t. I love you so much Ama! And a baby! I couldn’t be happier!” he said as he kissed her lips lightly and then lifted her into the air and spun her around, laughing lightly with happiness. Amanda chuckled as he placed her back onto the floor gently and pulled her into his arms again. “I love you so much Eddie.” She whispered as she rested her head on his chest. “I want you to be extra careful tonight…especially with this threat. I know I can’t keep you from fighting but please…please be extra careful…if not for us then for our child.” He whispered softly into her ear as he held her close. Amanda nodded against his chest lightly. “I’ll do my best…stay near me tonight?” she asked quietly. Edward’s arms tightened around her slightly. “Of course…I won’t leave your side.” He whispered back quietly. Amanda sighed as they held each other before they heard a knock at the door.

Amanda slowly pulled from his arms and walked over to open the door. “Hi Ami. What’s up?” Amanda asked quietly as Ami stepped into the room. “Is everything okay? I don’t know how to explain it but I felt something from you a minute ago.” Ami said quietly, a curious look on her face. Amanda looked to Edward questioningly for a moment before looking back to Ami. “Eddie and I were talking about some things because…because I’m pregnant.” Amanda said slowly, her face reddening slightly. “Already? How’d you know so fast?!” Ami asked in surprise. Amanda chuckled softly. “Well you know that telepathic gift I have now? I think that has something to do with it.” Amanda replied. Ami squealed happily and then hugged her sister tightly. “I’m going to be an aunt!!!” she cried out happily before turning and hugging Edward tightly as well. Amanda laughed at her sister’s antics. “Calm down Ames…besides…no one else can find out…not until all of this is over.” Amanda said quietly. Ami sobered up quickly. “Are you still going to be involved if there’s a battle?” Ami asked curiously. “Of course. Standing back and letting everyone else have all the fun would only make things worse. Don’t worry, I’ll be really careful Ames and besides, Eddie will be with me at all times.” Amanda said reassuringly. Ami nodded slightly after a moment before hugging her sister again. “Well, I’ll let y’all get ready now…I need to go get ready myself actually so I’ll see you in a little while okay?” Ami said quickly. Amanda nodded and smiled as her sister left the room before turning back to Edward.

“So, let’s get ready for the ball I suppose.” Edward said quietly. Amanda nodded, smiling as she walked over and wrapped her arms around Edward and rested her head on his chest. “I love you…” she whispered as she leaned against him. Edward smiled softly and held her close. “I love you too angel.” He whispered back and kissed her forehead lightly before pulling back. “Come on. Let’s get ready for tonight.” He said quietly. Amanda nodded and moved to change from her sundress into her ball gown for the night. She easily slid out of the dress and then pulled a clean corset and camisole from a nearby drawer. She slid the corset on and tightened it best she could before turning to Edward. “Honey, could you help me with this please?” she asked softly. Edward nodded and moved over to where she stood. He finished tightening the corset and then tied it off. “How do you girls manage to wear these things.” He muttered under his breath as he finished tying it. Amanda chuckled. “Thankfully it’s only for certain occasions now.” She said as she slid the camisole over the corset and he buttoned it up the back. “Thank you Eddie.” She said as she leaned up to kiss his cheek lightly before going to the armoire and pulling out a full A-line slip and then slid it on and tied it at her side before picking up her gown for the night. She carefully slid it over her head and settled it around her chest and turned for Edward to button up the long row of tiny buttons down her back. She had chosen a periwinkle blue silk dress that was strapless and fitted perfectly over the bodice that ended in a “V” at the middle of the waist. The skirt was long and full and seemed to flow around her easily as she moved. She smiled as she heard Edward muttering about all the buttons and once he had finished she turned and kissed him gently. “Thank you Eddie.” She said quietly as she smiled up into his eyes before turning and walking over to her dressing table and picking up a necklace and carefully putting it on. It was multiple layers of small pearls and lay lightly on her collarbone. She then carefully placed a pair of dangly pearl earrings in her ear lobes and slid a single strand of pearls on her wrist. She smiled back at Edward, watching him through the mirror as he got dressed as well in a handsome navy blue tuxedo with a sparkling white shirt beneath the tuxedo jacket. She was still smiling at him as she began brushing out her long hair until it was smooth and straight down her back. She then quickly pulled the top half of her hair up into a chignon (bun) and curled some strands of hair around her face and added some silver glittery powder to her hair, bringing out the natural shine in her deep blue hair. She then carefully set her silvery gold tiara that was filled with diamonds and blue gemstones onto her head and carefully pinned it into place. She quickly picked up the small pendant of a staff with a blue gem set on top and pinned it to the top center of her bodice. She smiled at herself in the mirror and then turned, leaning over and taking off the shoes she had been wearing with her sundress and then got up and walked over to her closet, pulling out a pair of satin blue dancing slippers of the same color as her dress. She slid her feet into the slippers and then let her skirt down and twirled around, letting the dress fluff itself back out. Edward looked over at her and chuckled, smiling happily. She looked as if she were floating; the dress was so long and full. He carefully put on his cuff links and then pulled his jacket on, buttoning it carefully. He bowed slightly at the waist and then extended an arm as Amanda smiled and walked over to him, linking her arm through his. He led her to the door and moved to open it, motioning her through with another small bow. “My Lady.” He said teasingly as he looked up at her. She curtsied slightly, a smile on her face as she walked through the door, quickly followed by Edward who once again linked her arm through his.

They walked toward the sitting room door where they saw Ami talking with a couple of the other girls in the hallway. Ami was dressed in a similar dress but in a pastel blue that was only a few shades away from being white. The sisters smiled at each other as all the girls began gathering in the hallway, talking quietly. They were subdued but trying to keep up a face of happiness for the moment to keep from being taken over by worry. Finally, they all headed toward the ballroom, which was being used tonight instead of the larger throne room. They could hear music drifting from the ballroom as they neared it and they all made sure to appear happy before they stepped through the double doors in a flurry of skirts. The room grew quiet for a few moments as everyone in attendance bowed and curtsied before the music continued and the chatter around the room resumed. The group of girls smiled and nodded, stopping to chat with someone on occasion as they made their way to the front. “Edward. Where is Endymion?” Amanda asked softly as she noticed that Endymion was not with Princess Serenity at the head of the group. Edward looked around and shrugged. “I don’t know…he may be running late is all.” Edward replied quietly. Amanda nodded slightly as they all arrived to where Queen Serenity and a small group of counselors were huddled in a circle, talking quietly. The girls all curtsied and Edward bowed before Queen Serenity as she turned. “Ah! You made it. Just so you know, I’m going to allow a short time to enjoy the ball before I announce what’s going on. Try to keep things light until then at least okay?” Serenity said quietly. The group nodded slightly in agreement. “Of course Queen Serenity. Just let us know when you’re ready.” Minako said quietly before the group moved to enjoy the ball. There was no one dancing as of yet since Queen or Princess Serenity had not yet opened the dance floor.

Amanda watched as Princess Serenity looked around dejectedly, no doubt wondering where Endymion was. Amanda looked around as well as she and Edward walked toward Princess Serenity. They stopped at her side and Edward leaned over and whispered something in Amanda’s ear before turning and bowing slightly, extending a hand to Princess Serenity. “Princess Serenity, may I please have this dance in my brother’s stead?” He said quietly as he looked at her gently. Serenity looked around a moment more before smiling and nodding, taking Edward’s hand as he led her out onto the dance floor. The current music gracefully came to a stop as they walked and as they took their places in the center of the floor, a soft waltz filled the air as Edward led her into a slow circle around the dance floor. He chuckled as Serenity continued to look around for Endymion. “Don’t worry Sere…I’m sure he’ll be here soon.” He said softly as she looked back up at him and blushed slightly. “I know…I just don’t understand why he’s running late.” She said quietly. Edward chuckled softly and then smiled as he caught a glimpse of Endymion walking down the stairwell that led into the ballroom. He gracefully led their waltz toward the stairs and then released her into a twirl to the rounded stairwell just as Endymion came close enough to the bottom of the stairwell. Endymion lightly grasped her hand, surprising her for a moment before she saw him and then a bright smile broke out onto her face as he took the last few steps to the dance floor and then twirled her around again until they were into the middle of the dance floor and the waltz continued. Edward bowed to the couple as Endymion nodded to him in thanks and backed off of the floor, returning to Amanda’s side and smiling down at her as they watched the young couple dance. Serenity twirled and floated across the dance floor on Endymion’s arms, the happiness and love the couple shared obvious to everyone in the room. Amanda smiled and linked her arms around Edward’s arm, laying her head on his shoulder lightly. “Thank you for doing that Eddie. She looked so dejected.” Amanda whispered softly. Edward smiled slightly. “I knew he couldn’t be too much longer and I couldn’t stand to see her standing there all alone…someone like her should never be alone like that.” He said quietly. Amanda chuckled softly. “She certainly has that personality about her.” She replied as they watched the couple dancing. When the dance finally came to a close, Endymion led Serenity out onto the balcony to have some time alone…and probably to include an apology for being late.

Amanda smiled as she watched them and turned to Edward. “Well now it’s my turn.” She said teasingly as she pulled him out onto the dance floor and the band struck up a livelier tune. Edward laughed as they danced, soon being joined by many other couples until the floor was full of laughing, dancing couples. The evening moved on as Edward recruited Endymion into dancing with the other planetary princesses so they wouldn’t feel quite so left out. Edward and Endymion had just finished dancing with Amanda and Princess Serenity again when Queen Serenity finally called everyone’s attention to her announcement. “Lords and Ladies, please forgive me for interrupting this beautiful affair. I’m afraid that I have some difficult news for all of us.” Queen Serenity said as everyone gathered close to hear what she was about to say. “We have received word that Beryl and Metallica have taken over earth and now control all the kingdoms there. It is believed that she will attack here before the night’s end. I ask that those of you who are able to stay and protect the peace of our kingdoms please do so. Those who are unable to be of assistance in this battle, I ask that you get to safety within the hour. I have guards lining the way to the transport pads to send you safely back to your planets and homes for those of you who are from one of the other planets allied with us. I have sent word to all of our allies of the coming attack and everyone is sending aid in this time of need. I also ask that everyone stay calm in this crisis. Do not panic, for Beryl and Metallica will feed on your panic and your fear and it will make her stronger. If you are one of those who cannot stay and fight for whatever reason, then I would suggest that you go ahead and calmly gather your things and head to your homes for your own safety. There is no shame in this. For those of you who will be staying, I ask that you remain or quickly return here until those who are leaving have safely left the city.” Queen Serenity said as she looked at everyone in the crowd.

The room buzzed quietly as people quickly made their decisions and a small portion of the people in the room, mostly the elderly and children and a few women with young children calmly left the room and went to gather necessities before heading to the transport pads. The music resumed, giving those remaining a calming sensation. Some of the dancing resumed as everyone waited for the queen to speak again. After about half an hour, a guard hurried to Queen Serenity’s side. Amanda, Edward, Princess Serenity, and Endymion quickly moved closer to the queen for information. “Queen Serenity. Everyone who is evacuating has left.” The guard reported quietly. Queen Serenity nodded in thanks and motioned him back to his post. He bowed again and then hurried from the room as Serenity looked to her daughter, Amanda, Edward, and Endymion. “Well…I guess the time is now.” She said quietly before moving to speak to the remaining crowd. “Ok, the evacuees are gone. Those of us who are staying, I want you to prepare for the battle ahead and report to Sardius, the captain of the guard. He will let you know where you will be stationed.” Queen Serenity said and then stopped, looking around as they all heard a loud rumbling noise. She quickly but calmly moved to see what was happening, stepping out onto the balcony to see a black cloud bursting through the protective barrier around the Moon. “I fear our time is up.” She said quietly as Amanda, Edward, Endymion and Princess Serenity watched from her side.

Amanda looked back toward the others as she quickly pulled her pendant off her bodice and held it up in the air. “Senshi! It’s time to gather!” she said quickly as the other girls nodded and hurried over to join her on the balcony. “Eternal Mercuriana Power!” Amanda called out as blue lights surrounded her and she transformed into Sailor Mercuriana. She heard the others transform into Senshi as well as she turned and leapt from the balcony, her wings unfolding as she flew to where the guards were taking their stand and joined them, her staff appearing in her hands as she held it out before her, quickly throwing up an energy barrier to give the others time to arrive. She watched as the black cloud materialized into faces and people and gasped as she saw Beryl flanked by the four generals of earth. She knew this would be hard for the others to handle. She heard the other Senshi coming up behind her as they all spread out across the field of battle. She glanced back to see Queen and Princess Serenity still on the balcony as Endymion leapt out to battle as well. She looked back toward the generals and the hordes of people as they attacked and slowly let down the energy barrier as her sister attacked. “Mercury Bubbles Blast!” Sailor Mercury called out as she spun around and let loose a storm of bubbles that quickly fogged the area around the attackers, throwing them into confusion. Mercuriana quickly followed her attack with one of her own. “Mercurian Icy Wave!” Mercuriana shouted as she twirled around, water and ice pellets building around her. She pushed her arms out and around in a circle to her chest and then out again, pointing from the middle of the line of attackers out to the ends as a wave of icy water rushed at them and spread out to engulf the entire first wave of attackers. She heard the other Senshi letting their attacks fly behind hers just as she saw Beryl and the generals’ jump up over the wave and the confusing fog just as it washed over their followers.
